Liquid Level Sensors
A liquid level sensor is used to monitor the various liquid levels on a racecar. These often include fuel, oil, coolant, water, brake and transmission fluid. Most electronic level sensor types used in motorsport are 'continuous' level sensors. These provide a continuous measurement of the liquid level, as opposed to point level sensors which determine the presence of fluid at a certain point.
In Motorsport, level sensors commonly use either capacitive, float or ultrasonic technology. Float level sensors tend to be fairly inexpensive, used by many amateur racers. Capacitive level sensors and Ultrasonic level sensors have no moving parts and so are more suited to the higher tiers of Motorsport in which the environmental demands are much greater.
