Linear Potentiometers
A linear potentiometer converts linear motion into a change in resistance. Typically a metallic brush makes contact with the resistive material inside the sensor assembly, and when the brush is moved the voltage potential difference can be monitored
Linear potentiometers have been used in motorsport for more than a decade. There are numerous applications for linear potentiometers on a racecar, including throttle pedal position and suspension displacement. Linear potentiometers are available as standard in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and stroke lengths, with short and long shafts . Some suppliers offer 'custom' potentiometers for specialist applications, often for Formula 1 use. Linear potentiometers can generally be connected directly to the cars telemetry and data acquisition system.
